Popularization of Medical Physics: The Role of University Outreach as a Dissemination Tool

Abstract

The study describes the use of the interactive "Escape Room" game as an educational tool to promote knowledge of Medical Physics, particularly its core fields such as radiotherapy, medical imaging, and the biological effects of radiation. This outreach activity was conducted during the extension event "Mostra de Profissões" at the State University of Maringá, which welcomed the local community and engaged high school students from Goioerê/PR and surrounding regions. The initiative aimed to raise awareness and interest in the Medical Physics program while encouraging students to interact with scientific content through immersive, playful methods. The "Escape Room" challenges were designed around real-world tasks of medical physicists, incorporating visual aids, clinical images, hands-on simulations, and 3D models. A total of 126 participants from 12 institutions took part in the activity. The results demonstrate that the project successfully sparked young participants’ curiosity about Medical Physics and contributed to broader science outreach efforts.
