Mammography is essential for the prevention and diagnosis of breast cancer. In this study, a scenario of a mammographic examination was simulated, using the Monte Carlo method, in order to evaluate the dose distribution in the breasts of patients with silicone gel implant, in addition to investigating preliminarily whether the presence of the implant has a negative influence in the detection of mammographic findings. It was found that there is an increase in energy deposition in breasts that have a silicone implant, however, this increment occurred in the region of the prosthesis. Although no dose increase was observed in the breast tissue, the photon beam flow was significantly disturbed due to the presence of the implant, which could lead to a decrease in the quality of the radiographic images. In the preliminary evaluation with mammographic findings, tumor masses and microcalcifications were inserted, identifying a worsening on their visualization because of the silicone implant presence.
